3.1.3 Beta-2 adrenoreceptor agonists - short acting
Prescribe inhalers by brand names to ensure that the correct device is dispensed to the patient.
Generic prescribing of inhalers should be avoided as this might lead to patients being given an unfamiliar inhaler device which they are not able to use properly. Different products and doses are licensed for different age groups and some may be applicable only to older children or adults (aged 18 years and over). Prior to prescribing, the relevant Summary of Product Characteristics (SPC) should be checked.

Where appropriate dry powder inhalers should be selected as the first line salbutamol product for all patients over the age of 4 years. The patient will require robust inhaler technique training
NOTE: Ventolin Evohaler emits 28kgCO2 emissions per inhaler. Salamol and Airomir emit only 10kg Co2e, and dry powder inhalers are almost carbon neutral
